I wrote this poem for Mother's Day 2005, a year after my mom had passed away.
Walking on the path of life
are generations three.
Hand in hand, through ups and downs,
my mother, my daughter and me.
Sharing joy and sharing woe,
we cherish our family.
Supporting each other, every day,
my mother, my daughter and me.
In days gone by, not long ago,
when I was young and free,
a different trio walked this path,
my mother, grandmother and me.
Now like her mother before her,
my mother lies peacefully,
having taught me all I need to know
to care for my daughter and me.
When I look back, in years to come,
I know that I shall see
a line of mothers watching o'er
my daughter, granddogger and me.

okay, I had to change the last line since my only grandchild has 4 legs and sheds like a fiend.

One of my mother's favorite pictures was the "Four generations" one - her mother (my grandmother), her, my sister, and my sister's daughter (my niece).

Generation pictures are very meaningful ... especially to the oldest.

Life changes after 20 years and we have to change with it. I'm happy with my granddogger and if I want a human, I borrow my brothers' grands.

@superbjversion2 @citizen4722 Time has a way of things...it'll drag us with it ready or not. My dad has been gone 30. Makes me stop and think sometimes, especially this past year going through my mom's house. We started a "Dad" box for when we found stuff she'd kept about him.
@MyNameIsKay I have "memory" boxes. My parents, my husband and all the little things from my daughter's childhood.

It's a lovely poem
and a happy mother's day to all the mom's out there.
(I was going to say MILFs) but I didn't.
Good thing cuz not all moms are MILFs.....or are they? ?
There is a certain eternal cycle to life, I suppose which links us all back through the mists of time to ancestors we never knew, but without, we could never be.
When I wrote the poem, I had a mental image of ancestresses, one behind the other, back into the mists.
