NVS16: Dancing in the Moonlight

September 2011

I was in Florida for a family wedding. Since I had taken time off work for another wedding, 2 weeks prior, this was just a 48 hour jaunt. The other revelers were doing the venue clean-up and my offspring had already conked out. I had the place to myself.

I relaxed on the porch of the ocean-front house, tired, but not yet ready for sleep. My bra had been tossed aside as soon as I had gotten to the rental. I was comfy in just my sun dress and panties.

The moon was full and low in the western sky. Its brightness made the white sand beach gleam in the darkness. The only sound was the gentle sussurance of the ocean. It whispered, "Come dance, Barbara. Dance on the beach. Dance naked in the moonlight."

I could picture myself doing just that. Dancing with joy; waving my discarded dress above my head. I slipped my panties off and started down the long, wooden stairs. I was paused on the final landing when the fatigue hit. I still had a ramp to go down and a small creek to wade across before I would reach the beach. Plus, the return trip back up the hill. I couldn't go on. I turned my back on the siren-call of the night.

The perfect moonlight.
The perfect beach.
The perfect solitude.
The perfect opportunity to dance naked in the moonlight.

Lost.

But should those perfect conditions ever offer themselves to me again ... you know what I'll be doing!
