I am also a big Rush fan they were by doubt the best shows I've seen. I've listened to some of some of what Anika Niles has played and she is good. She isn't Neil but I think she will do a great job. They have added a few more date I know that they are playing twice in Cleveland and I will be there.
im hoping that there will be a DC date added!
I think it is fantastic that this is happening.
Wore out the grooves on the first 2 rush albums as a teenage. Awesome band, so glad they are doing some shows!
Oh no!
do you like rush
@mysexualgoodtime I can't stand Rush though I haven't heard their music for some time. But it was bands like Rush, as well as King Crimson, Can, ELP, Van der Graaf Generator, Curved Air, Genesis, Humble Pie, Gong, Tangerine Dream, Gentle Giant and Yes, that made me jump on the punk bandwagon. I'm shuddering as I type in the names of those prog rock bands!
@spunkycumfun well tell it like it is
@mysexualgoodtime Believe it or not, I did hold back. Prog rock was presented to me as music I should like but I didn't. And when punk came along, it was so refreshing. Those no more than three minute thrash songs to pogo or pretend to kick someone to were so refreshing.
Though I accept, punk wasn't that musical but some bands could play their instruments well (like the Buzzcocks, The Clash, The Cure, The Jam and The Stranglers), the message was so democratic. Anyone can play and be a punk, so I did, though my band didn't get very far - we did make the New Musical Express alternative musical charts once, we did a mini-tour, and one of our songs was played in a Paris club that my friend was in!
@spunkycumfun Blasphemer!!!! Lol. Prog is my favorite but that's the thing about music, there's something for everyone. If you like it, and if it moves you emotionally and makes you feel something then that's all that matters. Plus I was happy to see that Marillion escaped your list.
@spunkycumfun i never saw or hear that rush is a prog band. most of the burnouts i was friends with back in my teen years )oh and redneck nerds as well) loved rush. ive always seen them as a rock band. and i love all the new wave, progressive, alternative of the late 70's and early 80s
@GtrPlyr1977 Sorry for blaspheming! But prog rock just turned me off. I remember sitting around someone's record player in a school dorm while they waxed lyrical about the wonders of prog rock but I just didn't get it. If it helps, it was Genesis far more than Rush that did it for me!
PS. Marillion would have been on my list but I decided I only wanted to mention an even number of prog rock bands and Marillion would have been number 13. I'm not superstitious but I'm not going to tempt fate! There was also Focus too - the Dutch have a lot to answer for!
@mysexualgoodtime This is the problem of categorising. The difference between prog rock and rock is a fine one. I suspect for many Genesis and Humble Pie aren't prog rock but rock bands.
If it helps my cause, I did a Google search for top prog rock bands and Rush are right up there. Now surely Google can't be wrong, can it?!
I have seen Rush more times than any other band, From the Hold Your Fire Tour through Clockwork Angels. I was disappointed that the R-40 didn't make it to Pittsburgh, the closest stop was Columbus and I just couldn't justify it at that time. I'm definitely making plans for Cleveland!
I'll road buddy with you if you want to do NY. I like NY and have been there a few times. You know where to find me. Good Luck!
