It Turned into a Restless Night

Most days I log-in to AFF while sipping my coffee in the morning. I generally don’t log out until mid-evening. I may close my browser without logging out but that means I can get in again without needing to log-in.

This past Tuesday when I attempted to re-enter the site in the early evening, I was prompted to log-in. I thought that was strange, but since I’d been doing some stuff earlier in the day that interrupted my internet connections I wasn’t particularly alarmed. But then I got the dreaded incorrect password message. I typed it again VERY carefully and used the “view password” icon. It was correct. I submitted it, and got the same thing - “incorrect password”.

In addition to my aforementioned internet work, on Tuesday I also did some exploring on this site, finally finding and turning off the alerts for new blog followers (it hasn’t helped with vastly too many alerts BTW) and briefly exploring the blogs section of the beta site. I wondered if somehow these items had created the log-in failure. But I figured it was more likely just yet another outage. I decided to ignore the issue and see what the deal was come Wednesday morning. Just before heading to bed I noticed this email from the site.

WTF - I had NOT closed my account!!

Every time I woke up overnight my mind went back to this issue. Would my account be recoverable? If so, in what shape would it be? If not, would I start over, or just quit and move on to occupying my mornings with something more productive? But MOST OF ALL, I was upset at the prospect of losing contact with all my twisted friends if I decided to just chuck it all and move on.

Early Wednesday morning I decided to use the link in the email I’d received the previous night to request assistance in getting my account reinstated. There were several options for reporting issues. I decided the one called “Delete Account” would perhaps get the quickest attention, though my expectations were quite low. I simply said that I did NOT delete my account and asked that it be reinstated. Then off I went to make my coffee. By the time I got back to my computer, I ALREADY had an email from the site that stated my log-in issue had be resolved, And it was too! 😮 Needless to say, I was pleased and relieved.

But this whole incident caused me to consider several things:
Am I putting too much time and effort into this place?
Should I “get a life” outside of here?
If I did leave, what would I do in the mornings while slipping coffee, and reading the newspaper and my email?

My questions for you are:
How much time a day (or week) do you spend on this site?
How much time a day (or week) on this site would you consider to be an excessive amount?
Are you in contact with members here via some other means, like other social media, text, or basic email?
